Helen’s Hat Tea Party raised £4,190
What a fabulous time we had at Helen’s Hat Tea Party.
The Coach Room at the Swan hotel in Bedford was filled with glamour, from the beautiful floral displays to the 30 hats all mounted on stands, and the guests, predominantly ladies, all in their in their lovely tea dresses.
Helen Nellis CVO CStJ, HM (retired) Lord- Lieutenant of Bedfordshire and patron, shared her fascinating ‘hat stories’ about the times that she had worn each hat, and the people - Royalty, celebrities, children and charity workers - who’d had an audience with each hat.
The hat collection was then auctioned by Russell Beard, High Sheriff of Bedfordshire.
The delicious Afternoon Tea in aid of the MS Therapy Centre, took place in the presence of Sue Lousada HM Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire and other friends and supporters of the charity.
The event raised a total of £4,190 to enable the charity to conitinue its work insuppirting people to manage their MS symptoms.
We’d like to thank Helen Nellis for her kind donation of the hats and for entertaining us so well, Russell Beard for his fine auction skills, HM Lord-Lieutenant Susan Lousada for a very interesting opening address about the hat industry in Luton, and the members of the Ruby Steering group for organising the event.
