Pilates

Pilates at the Bedford MS Therapy Centre

“Pilates is a type of activity that’s especially helpful for people who have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). The program’s focus on stability and core muscle strength is good for improving balance and movement. Pilates also helps to reduce fatigue, a common symptom of MS.

Pilates is an exercise program that was developed in the 1920s by German fitness instructor Joseph Pilates. He originally created these movements for the purpose of rehabilitation, to help people recover from their injuries.

Because the exercises are low impact, they’re generally doable for people of all ages and fitness levels. And a growing body of research suggests this program may be especially useful for people with MS.” says Healthline.

Pilate’s exercises are designed to have layers that allow everyone in the session to work at the appropriate level and to challenge their body. We offer Pilate’s either seated or on an exercise mat so with the layering of exercises there is a opportunity for everyone to benefit.

Jen, our Pilate’s instructor will be watching the members doing the exercises to ensure that they are doing them correctly to get the maximum benefit.
